Three Projects.
Three Different Challenges.
One Standard.
Every site presents different terrain, architecture, and goals. What
doesn’t change is how Vision Grounds approaches the foundation.

Copthorne® — Tri-Color Blend
A 1913 home in downtown New Braunfels carried more than a century of character — but its dated broom-finished concrete walkways were diminishing that history rather than honoring it. The mandate was straightforward: replace them with hardscape that felt period-appropriate and built to outlast everything around it.
The design called for two distinct geometric approaches. The formal front entrance received structured straight lines — deliberate, composed, befitting a historic entry. The private backyard took a different direction: flowing curves that create a sense of intimacy and movement, requiring significantly more complex cut work to execute cleanly.
Material selection centered on Unilock Copthorne® pavers in a hand-mixed tri-color blend of Burnt Clay, Old Oak, and Burgundy Red. The Reala™ surface texture — cast directly from actual European street pavers — brings an authenticity that synthetic alternatives can’t replicate. Ultima™ concrete technology gives these pavers up to four times the compressive strength of poured concrete, ensuring they outlast the finishes on every other surface on the property.
KEY DECISIONS
- Unilock Copthorne® in tri-color blend — Burnt Clay, Old Oak, and Burgundy Red, chosen for Reala™ texture cast from actual European street pavers
- Front entrance: Classic Running Bond with a Double Sailor Course border in Black Basalt — anchors the historic character of the entry
- Backyard: Double Herringbone with organic curves — the most technically demanding pattern, demonstrating precision cut work at every radius
- Custom 16-inch deep limestone treads with vertical paver risers for the entry steps — matching the material language of the walkway throughout
- Ultima™ concrete technology — up to 4× the compressive strength of poured concrete; the pavers will never crack, heave, or require re-pouring

Beacon Hill™ Smooth & Mattoni™
A steeply sloped Canyon Lake backyard isn’t an inconvenience — it’s an engineering problem that, left unaddressed, creates runoff, erosion, and unusable outdoor space. This property had all three. The goal was to engineer a series of level living zones from a difficult hillside, incorporating a hot tub pad, sauna area, and fire pit zone, while solving the drainage challenges that come with heavy Hill Country rain events.
The structural limestone retaining wall anchors the entire design. Built at seat height, it doubles as integrated seating for the fire pit zone — a practical detail that eliminates the need for additional furniture in that zone. The stone was hand-dressed to match the home’s original limestone exterior, making the wall feel like it belongs to the property rather than being added to it.
An open-grade base system was critical in the rocky, shifting Canyon Lake soil. Unlike compacted gravel bases that seal and redirect water, the open-grade system allows rapid vertical drainage, ensuring the installation remains stable even under the sustained weight of the hot tub and sauna. Native boulders were hand-selected and placed to anchor the outdoor shower area, blending the engineered hardscape back into the natural landscape.
KEY DECISIONS
- Structural limestone retaining wall at seat height — functions as integrated seating for the fire pit zone; hand-dressed to match the home’s original stone
- Unilock Beacon Hill™ Smooth in Fossil for the main patio surface — clean, contemporary finish that complements the Hill Country palette
- Custom Double Herringbone inlay in Mattoni™ pavers — creates a “rug” effect defining the central seating zone within the larger surface
- Open-grade base system — essential in rocky Canyon Lake soil; enables rapid drainage and resists settling under hot tub and sauna loads
- Hand-selected native boulders placed to anchor the outdoor shower area — hardscape that reads as landscape

Bristol Valley® — Fossil
Two empty nesters wanted to leave behind a high-maintenance lawn and create something they’d actually use — a dedicated outdoor hosting space that felt intentional rather than obligatory. The design brief was precise: organic, flowing curves that feel like a natural extension of the Hill Country landscape, not a rigid hardscape grid dropped into the yard.
The material selection was straightforward once the priorities were clear. Unilock Bristol Valley® Paver in Fossil captures the visual warmth and texture of Hill Country flagstone while delivering the structural integrity of an engineered interlocking system. Unlike natural stone, Bristol Valley won’t crack under Texas seasonal soil movement, won’t shift without a base failure, and won’t require re-sealing every few years. The decision trades the imperfection of natural stone for the permanence of engineered precision — without sacrificing the aesthetic.
Integrated LED step lighting extends the patio’s usability well into evening hours, which matters for a space designed around hosting. The lighting follows the curve logic of the patio itself — nothing about this installation compromises the design for the sake of utility. Both work together.
KEY DECISIONS
- Unilock Bristol Valley® in Fossil — captures the Hill Country flagstone aesthetic with the structural permanence of an engineered interlocking system; no cracking, shifting, or re-sealing
- Curvilinear design throughout — every transition follows a calculated radius; no sharp angles anywhere in the installation
- Precision Soldier Course border in dark charcoal — follows the complex curves precisely, grounding the lighter Fossil field pavers and defining the space cleanly
- Integrated LED step lighting — extends usability into evening hours; wired and coordinated as part of the installation, not added afterward
- Advanced base system engineered for Texas seasonal soil movement — ensures long-term stability without ongoing maintenance
